Great Exuma, Part I

For the first time in I don’t know how many years, my whole immediate family got to spend a vacation together. Our destination? Great Exuma, Bahamas. We arrived around noon on June 23rd on the lesser populated island (compared to Nassau) and immediately ran into problems. I had a drone!

After immigration and into customs, I was asked if I had a drone, complying with honesty, I said yes. I did my (apparently not very good) research on the Internet clarifying that it was safe to fly drones in the Bahamas but not without this semi-major hiccup. I was told that if I wanted to take my drone into the country that I would have to either leave a deposit of half its value or surrender it until we were to leave the country. My parents and I shelled out the majority of the cash we had to meet this newfound standard.

Carrying on, we rented two vehicles to fit our family of nine and proceeded to drive on the left side of the road to our resort, Grand Isle.

This place was unreal. We stayed in a villa on the third floor of one of the buildings overlooking the turquoise bay and white sand beach that was shared with Sandals, the resort next door. Grand Isle had it all, excellent service, delicious local food from the restaurant, infinity pool, a hut that offered towels and fins and masks if you wanted to snorkel around the coral heads, and so on. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Everything we needed access to was in walking distance, or if you didn’t feel like taking a stroll, a golf cart was designated to each villa on the resort grounds.

For now I’ll leave this post be and I will pick up with our following boat day shortly.
